Unite Pacific Plays Key Role in the Gildred Companies’ Renovation of Ocean Point in Carlsbad

Business Park in the ocean-close tech corridor of Carlsbad set for grand reopening

SAN DIEGO, CA – OCTOBER 19, 2016 – Ocean Point is a recently renovated mixed use project combining industrial office and creative work space in Carlsbad, California, located at 5411-5451 Avenida Encinas. Positioned west of Interstate 5 between Canon Road and Palomar Airport Road, Ocean Point is in a prime location near some of the most desirable beaches, shopping and restaurants in North County San Diego. The park has been renovated with a bold, uplifting design that elevates nondescript concrete “tilt up” buildings to a mixed use project offering creative spaces throughout the park and welcoming outdoor seating areas and walking paths. The project took a year from start to completion.

Ocean Point is owned and managed by The Gildred Companies, a long standing San Diego company with a portfolio of real estate assets throughout Southern California. The company has owned Ocean Point for a number of years and recognized the opportunity in Carlsbad. Its proximity to the beach and amenities make it a desirable location for employers. Carlsbad is becoming known as a seaside community small enough to have village charm yet large enough to be a world-class business environment.

Unite Pacific Inc., a North County commercial consulting group, put together and orchestrated a creative modification which drastically improved the architectural appeal of the buildings while reducing and repurposing the existing unused and water inefficient turf areas. Unite tapped the skills of Robert (Bob) Wilkinson at Wilkinson Design Group and Dick Lund from Grupo Pacific to handle the landscape and building architecture modification plans. “Dick’s artistic approach and handle on material types was spot on to bring about the project’s evolutionary vision. In addition, Bob’s artful understanding and use of plant palettes, colors and textures created an amazing foundation for the reimagining of the entire project,” said Jamie Looney, President of Unite Pacific.

“At its core, Ocean Point is really a response to the market’s demand,” said Looney. “North County San Diego has an average of 330 days of sunshine and employers know that people want the option to enjoy it on breaks during their work day. The Gildred Companies’ investment in collaborative outdoor space and a cool work environment answers that demand making this newly renovated space a first choice for tenants when compared with other nearby properties.”

The property connects to the beach via bike paths and also offers easy access to the Coaster and the 5 freeway. Future plans include electric or solar vehicle charging, bikes for rent on site and the ability to utilize reclaimed water from irrigation as soon as that option becomes available.
